I photograph on location. Parks, living rooms, bedrooms, backyards, bathrooms, beaches. I am happy to suggest spots near your home but my preference is to shoot in your home where your kid is most comfortable and familiar. Prior to the shoot I will ask for photos from you of your house to get a feel for lighting, layout, and the best spots for natural, beautiful photos.

I don't like to be rushed and I especially do not like to rush kids. I typically carve out 3 – 4 hours for the photo session. I usually photograph for 90 minutes of that time and the rest is spent setting up lights, masterminding a few great outfits, and finding the best spot to go with the flow in order to capture spontaneous moments.

9 months (to get fun and quirky shots the baby needs to be able to sit up) and up to 12 years. However if your kid is theatrical, likes to be photographed and over the age of 12, I am happy to consider.

Only if it makes you feel better but there is no need. Consider the mess part of the memory of this phase of your child's life. I use different lenses so when I photograph my focus is on your kid and often the background is out of focus. I do not mind mess one bit. I prefer it actually.

Let your kid(s) know they’re going to play, explore, get a little silly and I will just happen to be there with a camera. Avoid putting pressure on them to “behave” or “smile." A well rested, well fed child is more likely to be happy during the shoot. Please have their favorite snacks and a bottle of water for them at the ready.

Simple, comfortable, and true to their personality is best. Solid colors or playful patterns (without logos or writing) tend to photograph well. Bonus points for textures or quirky touches. Costumes are great and dress up is fun. We will try to change clothes a few times during our shoot. When I first arrive we will go through clothes that will photograph well. Not to worry, there is always something to work with in your kid's closets and I also bring back up.

Yes. (I have seen a single goldfish cracker turn an entire shoot around). I don’t judge. A lot of effort, on your part and mine, go into setting up the shoot, so whatever it takes.

No, not in the traditional sense. I am what they call a lifestyle photographer. I guide gently when needed, but most of my images are candid and playful. I let your child lead and in the process capture them being themselves. Kids are unpredictable, expressive, and constantly moving which is exactly why they are so much fun to photograph.

Yes! Especially if they wear a necklace or bow tie. Pets are strongly encouraged, however I get a bit squeamish with reptiles.

No worries. Every child is different. I allow time for warming up and I do not force anything. Sessions are flexible, not rushed, and built around your child’s natural rhythm. If your kid is better in the morning we can shoot then and if he or she is better in the afternoon, we can shoot then instead. If a nap is needed, no problem too.

Of course. Too often mamas are behind the camera and this is an opportunity to be in front of the camera with your kid. When they are on mama's lap but don’t skip shampoo on the day of the shoot. I also bring my hair and makeup kit to all shoots.

Perfect. Wild raccoons photograph beautifully. I specialize in capturing chaos, giggles, delight, and feral joy. A photo editor at a magazine used to tell me how she was always impressed by my high tolerance for chaos, when photographing kids.
